Repo Boost
The Repo Boost is a versatile pedal that can boost, buff, and otherwise supercharge your tone, with the option to go from sparkling clean to raw and dirty. It breathes life back into your pickups, adding a robust presence and bright chime. It pushes your amp, giving you a natural sounding breakup, which can be dialed from transparent cleans to gritty drive. Everything you play sounds bigger and better. It puts your signal on the zazz train to Zazz-ville.
When placed after other effects, it will boost them (duh), but with the ability to dial in the extra gain from the Salt knob, you can make everything tastefully gnarlier. Solos get punched up with added sustain and presence. Delays can turn into hollering chasms of death. Good stuff. The Repo Boost also works brilliantly as an always-on pedal to keep your tone standing strong, no matter what’s going on in the rest of your chain.
Adding Salt will increase the gain, which makes things sound better. Always. It’s science. The Salt range is gradual, so you can add just a dash here and there and still keep your sound very much on the transparent side of things. Or, if you want to “unscrew the cap on the shaker” as it were, and dump all of the Salt into your soup, you can bring the pedal into overdrive on its own. Hotter pickups will generate some real growl here, whereas lower output pickups will have a mellower, but still gritty effect -- both will put you in grimey garage rock world with ease. The pedal responds beautifully to picking dynamics, offering more clarity as you play lighter, and more hairiness when you dig in. It can put you right on that razor’s edge of dirty-but-still-cleanish gnarliness that you hear on a lot of punk tracks from the late 70s/early 80s. Think “The Dicks Hate The Police” or “Teenagers From Mars” vibes.
KNOBS:
Salt - Adjusts the gain. On the lower range of this knob, the effect can be brought in very subtly, but as you dial it up toward the top, it will give you more of a broken-up feel, ending on a light distortion.
Volume - This allows you to balance the volume where you need it, while still keeping the gain wherever you want it to be. (I recommend setting your salt level and then dialing up the volume to taste. But I’m not here to tell you what to do).
